Locking wheel nuts
Hi Guys, Ive got a sports pack fitted Mini with standard Rover locking wheelnuts. Unfortunately theyre on their last legs, so Im looking to upgrade them to something along the lines of McGard or similar. Has anyone had any experience with fitting them to sports pack wheels? Many thanks Alex

Locking wheel nut
Just make sure the locking wheel nuts chamfer is the same as the Rover one, so it doesnt crush or damage the hole, and does up tightly/securely.

locking wheel nuts
They sell locking wheelnut removers at Halfords. its a coloured socket with a reverse thread on it so you screw it onto the nut, then get a breaker bar and just screw it off. they do locking wheel nuts for the mini aswell, £32.99 not too bad Stu

Locking wheel nuts ! Help
I've just brought a 1990 mini for my son, and have just realised the alloy wheels have locking nuts but no key.
I've been in touch with the previous owner (who sold to me direct) but he has no idea where the key is. The nuts have three circular indents in the end of the nut, and a rotating sleve to prevent removal my grips etc.
So my question is.....are these a standard type of nut, and therefore can I buy a key, or will I have to have them forcefully removed?
Thanks for any info.

They don't sound like the standard type that Rover were supplying which I have on my 1990 Mini Cooper. Mine have an odd shaped locking wheel nut, that has a silver stainless steel cover which you remove prior to attaching the special key.
They came in a Rover branded box and the key has a number stamped on to it, which I recorded should the key ever get lost.
So the sleeve on yours doesn't come off then? As they sound like after market jobs, I doubt calling round to a Rover dealer would help (if they'd been Rover items, I've heard that they keep all the keys and could have helped you out).
I'd say the best course of action is to phone a few garages and ask if they can help you get them off and perhaps they'll know the manufacturers name and they could then locate the necessary key?

post a picture of the nut
the later cooper wheels used a locking nut under the chrome cap, but that was 2 half circles on it

i have the same nut i believe, my mini is fitted with ultralites and i was givent he key by the former owner, is it possible that this has something to do with your problem? are the alloys different to the factory standard? if so, it is possible that at a show or other event there will be a few of these old keys knocking about for next to no money, or ask at the shows to see if any of the sellers has any idea where you could obtain one
hope this has been some help

I had the same problem when i got my mini the previous owner had also lost the key to the locking nuts all i did was got an old ratchet bit set and hammered them on then took them of then through away the ratchet bits because the locking nuts will be stuck in so don't use new bits! i used 16mm and 5/8 to get mine off. Hope this helps

Wanted - Wheel nuts (FAM3721)
Hey guys, I'm in need of some FAM3721 60° taper, 12" steel-wheel wheelnuts. As I recall, these were originally fitted to the Mini City. If the image shows up, these are what I need.
E-mail to: john.gervais(-at-)gmail.com if you’ve got any to spare.
Thanks!

Cooper wheel nuts
Hi
I have a 1992 cooper with the standard wheels and those stupid standard wheel nuts that have the metal cover. Problem I'm having is that I dont have the original wheel jack, and all the wheel braces/spiders I have used dont fit when I try to loosen the nuts. Result is wheel brace just slips, therefore I cant get my wheel nuts off !! Does anyone know what size socket I should be using on my wheel brace? 16mm too small, 17mm just slip. I was advised 16/11 's (dont know what they are in metric??) again these prove to be too small?? any advice???? Thanks davey

What Wheel Nuts? ??
Hi, Could you advise me on what wheel nuts I need to use on a set of 10" GB Alloys? (Phot Attached) Many Thanks Paul

Well these are the wheel nuts in question: -
Mini Spares link
But you can usually pick them up cheaper in packs at the Mini Shows.
Anyway don't worry about not having the original wheel jack, because that is worst than useless when it comes to using it on these wheel nuts. Mine is in the boot just for posterity as I've never bothered using it as it just doesn't hold the nuts effectively.
I do have a spider type of wheel brace and one end fits perfectly. I think I bought it from Halfords years ago, so try getting a good quality wheel brace as that is sure to fit.
I can't remember the exact size socket, but I do know that you shouldn't use a standard socket set to remove those nuts as that will round them and damage them for sure.
When I do find out the size I'll post it here, or perhaps the powers that be at Mini Spares could provide the information?

Right I've checked my wheel brace and there's nothing marked on it, but I'm pretty sure it's either a 11/16" socket or a 13/16".
I'll let you know once I've confirmed it.
